The Vale Penrose is a private, pet-friendly country retreat in Penrose, in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Set across five acres of established gardens, it offers three separate self-contained accommodations for couples: The Studio, The Villa and The Pavilion.
The Vale Penrose is located at 80 Kareela Road, Penrose NSW 2579, in the Southern Highlands. Penrose is a quiet rural village surrounded by state forests and countryside, between Bundanoon and Wingello.

Yes. All three retreats are designed primarily for couples seeking privacy, tranquillity and a relaxing country escape. Each accommodation sleeps a maximum of two guests.
Yes. Up to two children, including infants, may stay free of charge. However, we are unable to provide additional bedding. All accommodations have one king-size bed, so children must either share the existing bed with their parents or guardians, or guests must bring their own portacot or other suitable bedding.
The Studio, The Villa and The Pavilion all have a real indoor wood-burning fireplace. Firewood is provided.
All three accommodations are ideal for a romantic escape. The Villa offers the greatest privacy, with a cosy country atmosphere, a wood-burning fireplace, a private outdoor spa and rural views. The Pavilion is perfect for couples seeking a wellness-focused stay, with a private sauna, outdoor hot tub, oversized bathtub and wood-burning fireplace. The Studio is the most budget-friendly option and features a king-size bed, wood-burning fireplace and private rainforest spa.
Yes. The Studio, The Villa and The Pavilion are self-contained and have kitchen facilities, allowing guests to prepare their own meals.
Yes. The Studio has a separate washing machine and dryer, while The Villa and The Pavilion each have a combined washer-dryer.
Yes. The Studio has a split-system air conditioner for heating and cooling, as well as a wood-burning fireplace. The Villa and The Pavilion both have central heating and cooling, as well as wood-burning fireplaces.
Yes. The Vale Penrose is a genuinely pet-friendly accommodation in the Southern Highlands. Well-behaved, house-trained pets are welcome in The Studio, The Villa and The Pavilion.
There is generally no additional accommodation fee for well-behaved, house-trained pets. Guests remain responsible for any damage caused by their pets.
We welcome all pets, including dogs, cats and other companion animals. We trust that guests travelling with pets will treat our accommodations and grounds with the same care and respect as they would their own home.
The Villa and The Pavilion are particularly suitable for dogs because each has a large private fenced garden. The Pavilion has an approximately 1,800-square-metre fully fenced lawn. The Studio also welcomes pets and has a private outdoor area, although this space is shared with The Vale’s resident labradoodles.
The Villa and The Pavilion each have their own private fenced garden. The Studio has a private yard shared with our resident labradoodles. However, wildlife may occasionally dig underneath the fencing, so we cannot guarantee that a determined dog will not find a way out. Dogs should therefore be supervised at all times.
Dogs may be off lead within the private fenced garden attached to the guest’s accommodation, provided they are supervised. Dogs must not enter the animal paddocks and should be kept under control when exploring other areas of the property.
Yes. The Vale is home to alpacas, Dorper sheep, chickens, Indian Runner ducks, geese, two labradoodles and a cat. Guests may also see native birds, kangaroos and, occasionally, wombats.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens and observe the animals. Pets must not enter the alpaca or livestock paddocks. Children and pets should always be supervised around animals, the lake and other rural areas.
Yes. Complimentary breakfast provisions include tea, coffee, milk, juice, halloumi, fresh eggs from The Vale’s chickens, cereal, oats, fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread and pancake batter. As all accommodations are self-contained, guests can prepare and enjoy breakfast whenever they wish.
Yes. Complimentary high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, with download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 40 Mbps. The connection is suitable for streaming, video calls and working remotely, although speeds may vary based on conditions.
Yes. Complimentary on-site parking is provided close to each accommodation.
Yes. Bed linen, bath towels and bathrobes are provided. For stays longer than seven nights, a complimentary mid-stay clean is included, together with fresh bed linen and towels. We are also happy to provide fresh towels free of charge during any stay upon request. For stays of less than seven nights, a change of bed linen can be arranged for an additional fee.
Yes. Essential bathroom toiletries are provided in each accommodation.
Yes. The accommodations have reliable high-speed Wi-Fi and comfortable indoor spaces suitable for remote work. However, The Vale is primarily designed as a peaceful country retreat.
Yes. Smart televisions and streaming services are available. Netflix is provided for guests.
Yes. All accommodations are self-contained. There is no on-site restaurant or room service, so guests should bring food with them or visit restaurants, cafés and shops in nearby towns.

Early check-in and late check-out cannot normally be offered, as our accommodations require plenty of love and care to be thoroughly cleaned and prepared between guests.
The Vale Penrose offers self-check-in. Detailed directions and access instructions are sent to guests two days before arrival. There is no traditional reception desk.
The Vale is accessed via Kareela Road, which includes approximately two kilometres of unsealed country road. The road is suitable for standard vehicles when driven with normal care. Detailed directions are sent two days before arrival, including instructions on how to avoid another stretch of unsealed road which is sometime recommended by Google Maps or Apple Maps.
No. Parties and events are not permitted. The Vale is intended to be a peaceful retreat for registered guests.
Smoking is not permitted inside any accommodation. Guests who smoke must do so outside and dispose of cigarette butts safely and responsibly.
Each accommodation has its own dedicated private outdoor fire pit, with firewood provided. Fire pits must not be used during a total fire ban. A sign with a QR code is located near each fire pit, allowing guests to check whether a total fire ban is in place.
Yes. The Vale is in a rural, bushland environment. Fire restrictions commonly apply during the warmer months, and outdoor fires must not be lit during a total fire ban. Guests must follow all instructions provided by the hosts and the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Yes. Guests are welcome to explore The Vale’s established gardens, lake, orchards and other shared outdoor areas. Private areas attached to another guest accommodation should not be entered.

Yes. The property has a picturesque lake with a red bridge, surrounded by gardens and native wildlife. The lake is not fenced, so guests are responsible for supervising pets and any accompanying children near the water.
Guests can relax in their private spa or hot tub, enjoy the sauna at The Pavilion, sit by the fireplace, explore the gardens, observe the animals, watch local birdlife or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside.
The surrounding Southern Highlands offers bushwalks, national parks, wineries, country villages, restaurants, cafés, antique shops, gardens and historic attractions. Bundanoon, Exeter, Sutton Forest, Moss Vale, Berrima, Mittagong and Bowral are all accessible by car.
The nearest selection of cafés, restaurants and essential shops is in Bundanoon, approximately 15 minutes away by car. Additional dining and shopping options are available in Moss Vale, Berrima, Mittagong and Bowral.
Yes. Penrose is surrounded by state forest and is close to Morton National Park, local reserves and numerous Southern Highlands walking areas. Guests should check current park conditions and closures before setting out.

Yes. Guests who book directly receive a 10% discount on stays of up to two nights and a 15% discount on stays of three nights or more. During long weekends and other special occasions, a minimum four-night stay is required to receive the 15% discount. Direct bookings also allow guests to communicate directly with the hosts rather than with a third-party.
Rates vary depending on the accommodation, dates, length of stay and seasonal demand. Enter your preferred dates on the official booking page to see current prices and availability.
We generally require a minimum stay of two nights. One-night stays may occasionally become available one or two days before check-in or when there is a single-night gap between two existing reservations.
Your reservation will be fully refunded should a cancellation occur with at least 5 days notice prior to your arrival. A 50% refund will be made should a cancellation occur between 5 and 3 days from arrival. The full amount will be retained should a cancellation occur with less than 3 days notice from arrival.
Should a cancellation occur within a period where a penalty is applicable, I will put the dates back for sale and should the place get booked by another guest, I will perform a refund equal to the value of the new reservation.
